Home unbeaten streak broken, Daegu FC says ‘we have income’
Entering the final round with a full house, Daegu FC suffered a disappointing loss to Jeonbuk Hyundai, ending their 11-match home unbeaten streak.
In the 34th round match against Jeonbuk Hyundai in the Hana OneQ K League 2023 at DGB Daegu Bank Park on the 21st, Daegu FC was looking to build on its recent seven-match unbeaten run and move up the standings with a win, but came away with a 1-2 defeat.
Having lost to Daegu at home in their last meeting, Jeonbuk came into the match with a lot of preparation. After pressing Daegu hard from the start of the match, Jeonbuk took the lead with a goal from Han Gyo-won, Daegu equalized shortly after with a goal from Edgar’s ‘foot’.
After finishing the first half 1-1, both teams came out in the second half determined not to be satisfied with a point, and targeted each other’s goal several times, with Daegu creating scoring chances with the speed of Vasellus and the height of Edgar, and even earning a penalty kick with the combination of the two players, but were disappointed when the PK was canceled after video review.
They hoped to turn the tide with a red card, but instead conceded a penalty just before the break when Beltola was brought down in the box, leading to Gustavo’s winning goal.
Daegu, who were looking to extend their unbeaten run at home to 12 matches, saw their five-month home winless streak snapped against Ulsan on May 5, and finished the season head-to-head with Jeonbuk level on two wins and two losses.
Speaking about the disappointing defeat, Choi Won-kwon said that losing is always a bad feeling, but soccer is all about results, “I felt that Jeonbuk prepared well. They are always a stronger opponent than us, and I think our players played well at home,” he said, adding that they will focus on preparing for the next game.
Despite the disappointment of missing out on a win and having their home unbeaten streak broken, Daegu once again showcased the excitement of DGB Daegu Bank Park with a sold-out crowd for the first match of the final round, and the Angel Club and Daegu Mayor Hong Joon-pyo, who joined them for the brand day, also enjoyed the heightened excitement of Daegu soccer.
Although the match did not result in a point, it was significant in that Daegu found a way to exploit the opposing defense with the Edgar-Vacellus-Beltola combination without Sejingya.
It’s also noteworthy that Edgar’s goal, his seventh of the season, was his first with his feet rather than a header, which has been his scoring route all year.
In response to the criticism of Park Se-jin’s unsatisfactory performance in the starting lineup, Choi Won-kwon said that Park is going through some growing pains and is doing a good job, while also revealing that the team is preparing for Lee Jin-yong’s arrival next season.
Continuing to play a game that utilizes a lot of forward pressure even without Sejingya, and reaping the rewards of tactical 토토사이트 versatility, Daegu will look to get their first win of the season against Ulsan in the upcoming match.
Coach Choi Won-kwon also expressed his eagerness for an away win against Ulsan, saying that he will prepare well for each player through various video analytics.
