Kwon Hyuk-gyu, who could not even make his Celtic debut, moves to St Mirren on loan

Kwon Hyuk-gyu moved to St. Mirren on loan.

Midfielder Kwon Hyuk-gyu (23), who had not had a chance since moving to Celtic in the Scottish Premiership last summer, was loaned to St. Mirren.

St. Mirren announced on the club website on the 13th (Korean time) that it had signed Kwon Hyuk-gyu on loan until the 2023-24 season.

Kwon Hyuk-gyu, who played at Busan I-Park in K League 2, signed a five-year contract with Celtic in July of last year and succeeded in advancing to Europe.

He raised expectations by forming a Korean trio with Oh Hyun-gyu and Yang Hyun-jun at Celtic, but was unable to make his official debut as he was pushed out of competition for the starting position. He has not played a single game in the league, the league cup, or the UEFA Champions League.

In the end, Kwon Hyuk-gyu made a breakthrough through a loan transfer. St. Mirren also brought in Kwon Hyuk-gyu to strengthen the midfield after Australian midfielder Keanu Bacchus was absent due to participation in the 2023 Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Asian Cup.

Coach Stephen Robinson said, “Kwon Hyuk-gyu is a player of whom we have great expectations. “Celtic also wanted to send him to our team on loan,” he said, expressing his expectations, saying, “I believe Kwon Hyuk-gyu will strengthen his skills.”

St. Mirren ranks 5th out of 12 teams in the Scottish League with 8 wins, 5 draws, and 9 losses (29 points). The gap with first place Celtic (54 points) is 25 points. 스포츠토토맨
