‘Dream come true’ Felix could stay at Barça, his childhood dream club
Will João Felix (24) be able to stay at Barcelona as he so desperately wants?
“João Felix will stay at Barcelona. Atletico Madrid president Enrique Cereso has commented on Felix’s future,” reported Goal.com, an English soccer website.
Felix has been linked with a move to Barcelona since before the start of this summer’s season. After a loan spell with Chelsea last season, Felix returned to the team but found his place in the squad completely narrowed. His number seven shirt was given to the returning Antoine Griezmann, 32, and there was no place for him.
In addition, Felix’s attitude was controversial. He clashed with coach Diego Simeone over playing time and a rift developed. Simeone publicly stated that “no player is greater than the team” and that he had no intention of playing Felix.
Felix wanted a move and wanted to go to Barcelona, his childhood idol, but the club was struggling financially and couldn’t afford Felix’s high weekly wages.
Felix makes a radical decision. Felix took a massive pay cut from his €280,000 weekly salary to accept only €8,000 (about $12 million) to join Barcelona on loan.
Felix had a strong start to his time at Barcelona. He scored his debut goal after just two games and was at his best with three goals and two assists in his first five games. However, he’s gone quiet in the last five games and his form has been poor. Currently, Felix has four goals and three assists in 14 appearances.
According to the media, Barcelona want to sign him outright. Barcelona are considering signing both Felix and Joao Cancelo, 29, who is currently on loan, in next summer’s transfer window, but a transfer fee of at least €150 million is expected to be required to sign both players.
Atletico Madrid president Florentino Perez said, “I think Felix will be one of the best players in Europe. I wish him nothing but the best at Barcelona,” he said, hinting at a parting of ways with Felix.
“He is on loan, but if Barcelona 먹튀검증 want to sign him permanently, they will have the option to do it with certainty. If not, he will come back,” he added.
