Dodgers come from behind to win Game 1 of Seoul series

The Los Angeles Dodgers have won their first major league game in South Korea.

The Los Angeles Dodgers won the first of a two-game series against the San Diego Padres at the Gocheok SkyDome in Seoul on Tuesday, 5-2, in the official opening game of the 2024 Major League Baseball (MLB) World Series.

The Dodgers rallied from a 1-2 deficit with four runs in the top of the eighth inning. After two walks and a hit batter loaded the bases with no outs, No. 8 hitter Kike Hernandez hit an outfield sacrifice fly to tie the game at 2-2.

In Gavin Lux’s next at-bat, a strange thing happened. It looked like Padres first baseman Jake Cronenweth was going to catch Lux’s infield grounder, but the ball sailed into right field. In the slow shot, the grounder sailed through Cronenweth’s glove web (the net-like part between his thumb and index finger). A fast, hard hit ball can break the weaker part of the glove web, or get stuck in between the knuckles.

Lux’s hit was scored on a fielding error by Padres first baseman Cronenworth. Teoscar Hernandez took advantage of the error to score from second base, giving the Dodgers a 3-2 lead. The Dodgers extended their lead to 5-2 with back-to-back RBI singles by Mookie Betts in the next at-bat and Shohei Ohtani in the second.

The Padres took a 2-1 lead into the seventh inning and looked to be in control of the first game of the Seoul Series. Xander Bogaerts got the first hit for the Padres. He singled up the middle off Dodgers starter Tyler Glasnow with the bases loaded and one out in the bottom of the third inning. Tyler Wade, who was on third, came home to score. The Padres added a run in the fourth inning on Luis Campusano’s infield grounder with the bases loaded. However, they could only manage two more hits from the fifth through the ninth innings.

The Dodgers’ Shohei Ohtani, one of the hottest stars in baseball, batted second in the lineup and went 2-for-5 with a double and an RBI. In his second at-bat, with the bases loaded in the top of the third inning, Ohtani singled to right off Darvish Yu. In his third at-bat, a bases-loaded walk in the fifth inning, he hit a hard line drive toward the shortstop, but the third baseman made a diving catch and then threw to second base to rob the runner at first base. Ohtani responded with an RBI single in the eighth inning to make it 5-2.

Ohtani’s wife, Mamiko Tanaka, 28, and other family members watched the game from the first-base side of the stands, wearing “Ohtani” jerseys, to share in the moment of Ohtani’s regular-season debut with the Dodgers.

In the bottom of the seventh inning, Daniel Hudson, the Dodgers’ third pitcher, took the mound and pitched a scoreless inning to earn the win.

The first hit of the Seoul Series came from the Dodgers’ Max Muncy (34). Muncy, who started at third base and batted fifth for the Dodgers, led off the top of the 카지노 second inning with a single up the middle.

Kim, the Padres’ shortstop and No. 5 hitter, went 1-for-3 with a walk and four strikeouts. The Padres managed just four hits and four walks on the day.

Padres manager Mike Shields said, “We played a good game until the top of the eighth. The bullpen did a great job,” said Padres manager Mike Shields, who reflected on the difficulty of that (Cronenworth) situation. “We’ve got Joe Musgrove starting tomorrow. He’s got some weight. I think we’ll be able to bounce back.”

Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said, “It was a fortunate moment for us and an unfortunate moment for Cronenweth. We had some luck and we capitalized on it,” said Roberts. “Ohtani’s hitting was impressive today. We expect him to continue to do well in the future.”

Game 2 of the best-of-seven series will be held at 7:05 p.m. on April 21 at the same venue. The Dodgers will be the home team in Game 2. Yoshinobu Yamamoto will start for the Dodgers and Joe Musgrove will start for the Padres.
