‘Three in a row in UCL’ Zidane to coach Kim Min-jae? Bayern Munich’s new boss on the rise

Bayern Munich are interested in appointing Zinedine Zidane as their new manager.

Spanish media outlet Marca reported on Thursday (July 14) that “Munich have named Zidane as a possible replacement for Thomas Tuchel next season. Munich are looking for Tuchel’s successor. They have set their sights on Zidane, who recently announced his intention to return to coaching.”

Tuchel took over at Munich last season. Tuchel set his sights on a treble upon his arrival. However, despite Tuchel’s lofty ambitions, the Bavarians failed to fulfill them. They were eliminated in the UEFA Champions League (UCL) quarterfinals by Manchester City.

In the DFB-Pokal quarterfinals, they lost to Freiburg. The league title was a close call. Dortmund finished ahead of Munich in the standings, but Munich won the final game and Dortmund lost to Mainz to finish on top.

Munich’s goal this season was also a treble. However, they lost to third division Saarbrücken in the second round of the DFB-Pokal. The treble was out of the question, and all that remained was the league and UCL. Even that is likely to be a failure. The league was won by Leverkusen.

Leverkusen started the season on a high note and went undefeated. They emerged as a contender to Munich, the reigning Bundesliga champions. Leverkusen leapfrogged Munich to the top of the league. At the beginning of the season, it wasn’t widely believed that Leverkusen’s surge would last.

But Leverkusen had no intention of losing, and they ended the first half of the Bundesliga season at the top of the league and within striking distance of Munich. Leverkusen and Munich met at a crucial time, and the result was a 3-0 win for Leverkusen. Leverkusen didn’t lose a single game after that. While Leverkusen was riding high, Munich began to falter and the gap between the two teams grew unbearable.

In the 28th round of the Bundesliga, Munich’s 2-3 loss to Heidenheim and Leverkusen’s 1-0 win over Union Berlin widened the gap to 16 points. With six games remaining before the league finale, Leverkusen needed just one win to clinch the title early. Leverkusen clinched the title with a 5-0 win over Werder Bremen in round 29.

If they are also eliminated from the UCL, Munich will finish the season irrelevant. Munich are now in the quarterfinals and have been drawn against Arsenal. The first leg ended in a 2-2 draw away from home. The second leg is at home, so they have the 토토사이트 advantage. However, even if they reach the quarterfinals, their chances of winning the trophy are not high, as they will face either Manchester City or Real Madrid.

The mood in Munich has not improved this season, and Tuchel has decided to leave the club after this season. “Munich has agreed to terminate the contract of Tuchel, which was due to expire on June 30, 2025, on June 30, 2024,” the club announced on its website.

Munich had wanted Leverkusen’s Xabi Alonso to succeed Tuchel, but that didn’t work out as planned when Alonso announced that he would remain at Leverkusen next season. Munich had to find a new coach, and Zidane is one of the favorites.

Zidane was also incredible as a player, with excellent ball control, dribbling, and passing that made him a feast for the eyes. Zidane was awarded the Ballon d’Or, one of the greatest awards a soccer player can receive, and won many trophies with Juventus and Real Madrid. He also led the French national team to the top of the podium at the 1998 World Cup in France and Euro 2000.

After his playing career, he became a coach. He was the head coach of Real Madrid and then Real Madrid Castilla before taking over the reins at Real Madrid in the 2015-16 season. He took over midway through the season after Rafael Benitez was fired.

Zidane’s success has been based on his ability to control his players. He won the UEFA Champions League (UCL) in 2015-16, 2016-17, and 2017-18, winning three consecutive UCL titles. In the league, they won the 2016-17 and 2019-20 seasons. He left Real Madrid at the end of the 2020-21 season.

Since leaving Real Madrid, Zidane hasn’t taken charge of any team, and many teams have been in the running to hire him. He has also been linked to the French national team. Didier Deschamps was rumored to be Zidane’s successor after the French coach failed to show good form after winning the 2018 World Cup in Russia. However, Deschamps’ runner-up finish at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar has kept him in charge of France.

Paris Saint-Germain (PSG), the U.S. national team, Brazil, and Algeria were also in the running for the job, but Zidane was unmoved. His former teammate Emmanuel Petit even advised him, saying, “A coach, like a player, can have problems if he is away for a long period of time.”

Recently, Zidane has expressed his desire to return to the bench. Zidane’s arrival in Munich will likely overcome the current mood. Zidane is known for his ability to control his squad. With world-class players such as Harry Kane, Manuel Neuer, and Kim Min-Jae, Munich will need his skills.
