The Hanwha Eagles’ meteoric rise in the Korean Baseball Organization is about to come to an end, and the shoulders of ‘the next Ryu Hyun-jin’ Moon Dong-ju are heavier than ever.

The Hanwha Eagles have announced right-hander Moon Dong-ju as the starting pitcher for their first game of the season against the NC Dinos of the 2024 Shinhan SOL Bank KBO League at Changwon NC Park on Saturday.

Hanwha is coming off a shocking three-game sweep of the KIA in Daejeon last weekend, snapping a three-game losing streak. They showed signs of resuming their winning ways when they snapped a five-game losing streak with a resurgent pitching performance by Ryu Hyun-jin against Doosan in Jamsil on Nov. 11, but they ran into a wall at the hands of ‘title favorites’ Kia, dropping to 9-10 on the season and tied for fifth place. The Eagles, who were 8-2 heading into their game against Lotte on April 4, suffered five consecutive losses and three straight defeats to the point where their 5-percent win rate was destroyed.
