Samsung starting lineup in disarray…’Elbow pain’ Baek Jung-hyun scratched from first team
The surging Samsung Lions have been hit with a series of injuries to their starting pitching staff.
Samsung removed left-hander Baek Jung-hyun from the first team roster on July 31.
“Baek Jung-hyun felt uncomfortable in his left elbow and was removed from the roster,” Samsung head coach Park Jin-man said before the team’s upcoming game against the KT Wiz of the 2023 KBO at Katie Wiz Park in Suwon.
In June, Baek was also sidelined for a while due to elbow pain.
“He is said to be in a slightly worse condition than in the first half,” Park said, adding, “I think he needs to get plenty of rest.”
The bad news continued for Samsung. Foreign pitcher Taylor Widener, who was scheduled to start the game, was replaced by Hong Jung-woo due to worsening physical symptoms.
“We’ll keep an eye on him for two to three days,” Park said, “but he’s not too sick, so he should be able to join the starting rotation next week.”
Samsung also recently rested ace David Buchanan due to a bout with gallbladder symptoms. Fortunately, his condition is improving.
“Buchanan will pitch in the bullpen tomorrow,” said Park Jin-man, “and if there are no problems, he will be able to start the home game against the NC Dinos on September 3.” 먹튀검증
