The Korea Volleyball Federation (KOVO) will hold the “2023 Gumi-Dodram Cup Professional Volleyball Tournament” at Park Chung-hee Gymnasium in Gumi from 29th to August 13th. The women’s team will kick off with the Korea Expressway Corporation-Pepper Savings Bank match on the 29th, and the men’s team will kick off with the Korean Air-Woori Card match on August 6.

It is the first time in more than six years that a professional volleyball game has been held in Gumi since the 2016-2017 season when LIG Insurance, the predecessor of KB Insurance, played its last game. A total of 16 teams will compete. There are 14 teams in the men’s and women’s divisions of the V League and two teams invited from abroad. Panasonic Panthers, ranked third in the Japanese V League last season, will participate in the men’s division, and Supreme Chonburi, a strong team in the Thai league, will participate in the women’s division.

The men’s division was divided according to the results of last year’s tournament. Group A, which includes Korean Air, Woori Card, KB Insurance, and OK Financial Group, and Group B, which includes KEPCO, Samsung Fire & Marine Insurance, Hyundai Capital, and Panasonic, will play the group stage respectively. The women’s division was drawn into groups. It is Group A of Korea Expressway Corporation, Pepper Savings Bank, Hyundai Engineering & Construction, and KGC Ginseng Corporation, and Group B of Heungkuk Life Insurance, IBK Industrial Bank of Korea, GS Caltex, and Supreme.

In this tournament, faces who change their uniforms or take their first steps in the V-League during the off-season stand out. In the men’s division, KB Insurance Hwang Seung-bin and Woori Card Han Sung-jung, OK Financial Group Song Hee-chae and Woori Card Song Myung-geun, who were traded against each other, are noteworthy. In the women’s division, players such as Park Jung-ah (Pepper Savings Bank) and Jung Dae-young (GS Caltex), who changed their uniforms after leading the Korea Expressway Corporation to win last season, are drawing attention.
