Hanam City Hall wins against ‘giant’ Doosan and former club

Hanam City Hall extended its lead at the top of the men’s division of the Shinhan SOL Pay 2023-2024 Handball H League with a win over his former club.

Led by head coach Paik Won-cheol, the Hanam City Hall defeated leader Doosan 27-22 on Tuesday at SK Hawks Arena in Cheongju, South Korea, in the fourth round of the men’s division, behind nine goals from Park Kwang-soon and 16 saves from goalkeeper Park Jae-yong.

With four consecutive wins, Hanam City closed the gap on leaders Doosan (24 points) to four points with 11 wins, two draws and six losses, raising their chances of jumping to the top of the table. The victory over Doosan, who have not beaten the club this season with one draw and two losses, was their first against a former club.

“Our ‘defense first, attack later’ plan worked well, with (Park) Kwang-soon-yi making a standout performance in attack and goalkeeper Park Jae-yong making a great save,” said Hanam City Head Coach Baek Won-cheol. “We still have six games left, so we want to do our best to take the lead. The players’ will is strong and the teamwork is good, so we will challenge for more than just a spot in the postseason.”

On the day, Hanam City took a 4-1 lead in the first half as Kim Da-bin, Park Kwang-soon, and Park Si-woo scored in quick succession and tied up opposing ace Kim Yeon-bin, but Doosan countered with goals from Go Bong-hyun, Cho Tae-hoon, and Kim Jin-ho to cut the deficit to 5-4 in the 10th minute.

However, Hanam City increased its lead again to 8-4, a double score, with back-to-back goals from Kim Jin-ho and Park Si-woo. From there, the team continued to 메이저사이트 lead by three or four points and finished the first half with a 14-10 lead.

In the second half, after Doosan came out of halftime with back-to-back goals from Kim Yeon-bin and a fast break from Kang Jeon-gu to cut the deficit to 13-14, Hanam City fought back with goals from Yoo Chan-min, Kang Seok-joo, and Shin Jae-seop, followed by a brilliant save from Park Jae-yong to preserve the lead.

Midway through the second half, goals from Kim Ji-hoon, Park Si-woo, and Park Kwang-soon were followed by a brace from Shin Jae-seop after Doosan had been shut out. It was a complete victory against the top-ranked Doosan, who never gave up the lead.
