Free agent Kim Jong-kyu, who has never hidden his love for DB, announces news of re-signing with DB in a ‘self-feature’ “I want to be embraced by green stars, Windy fans”
Although the contract hasn’t been officially announced yet, he made a “self-disclosure” to show his love for the team. Kim Jong-kyu, who became a free agent (FA) for the second time, will stay with Wonju DB.
Kim Jong-kyu announced his re-signing with the DB on his social media accounts on Saturday. “First of all, I apologize to all of you Windy fans who have been waiting for a long time,” Kim Jong-kyu began, “I should have gotten my act together quickly and announced the news, but I guess I didn’t. I have a star in my heart that I’ve had since I started playing basketball in elementary school. I will jump higher to bring that green star to the hearts of Windy fans in Wonju, 홀덤 which will be even hotter than this year, next season.”
Kim Jong-kyu, who was known as the “Kyunghee University Trio” alongside Kim Min-gu and Doo Kyung-min, joined Changwon LG as the No. 1 overall pick in the 2013 rookie draft. He then moved to Wonju DB in 2019 after becoming eligible for free agency. In his five seasons with the DB, he has had his ups and downs due to injuries, but he has been one of the pillars of the ‘DB Acid’ as he has been a solid defender. Last season, he rebounded with 11.9 points, 6.1 rebounds, and a field goal percentage of 61.2 percent, averaging 24.21 minutes in 49 games, helping DB win the regular season title.
After signing Lee Sun Albano and Kang Sang-jae, DB also signed Kim Jong-kyu, giving the team a solid boost for next season while maintaining its existing strength.
The following is the full text of Kim Jong-kyu’s social media post.
hello. First of all, I apologize for the long wait, Windy fans.
In Wonju, where the team was hotter than ever this season, the team worked hard towards one goal, but ended up with a really disappointing result, which made me reflect on myself.
As I replayed the games one by one, I realized that I fell far short, and there were many nights that I lay awake at night thinking that I didn’t contribute as much to the team as I should have.
However, I don’t think staying silent in the face of what was being said around me was the best option, I should have been able to pull myself together quickly and share the news.
I have a star in my heart that I’ve had since I started playing basketball in elementary school.
Next season, I will jump even higher than I did this year to bring that green star to the hearts of Windy fans.
Thank you for always believing in me and supporting me.
