“Barcelona want Felix+Cancelho outright”…Mendes agent ‘confirms’
Barcelona want to complete the signings of João Felix and Joao Cancelo. Their agent, Jorge Mendes, has confirmed the news.
Barcelona signed the ‘Portuguese duo’ on loan from Atletico Madrid and Manchester City ahead of the season, respectively. Both players struggled at their original clubs and came to Barcelona in search of a breakthrough.
Their performances have followed suit. Kancelu has established himself as a solid starter with two goals and one assist in 16 league appearances, and has a season rating of 7.26 on FootballScorecard.com. Felix has also been a solid performer with four goals and two assists in 17 league games.
Ultimately, both Felix and Kancelu want to stay at Barcelona. And Barcelona intends to make it happen. “Barcelona will hold talks with Atletico for the full signing of Felix,” said Fernando Polo, a reporter for Spanish publication Mundo Deportivo.
However, the negotiations are not going to be easy. “Atletico want 80 million euros ($114.7 billion) for Felix,” said Javi Miguel of Spanish outlet Diario As. This is an amount that Barcelona cannot accept. Barcelona are willing to pay up to 25 million euros ($35.8 billion).”
In the end, Barcelona are hoping to temporarily solve the problem by extending the lease. What matters is Atletico’s willingness. It’s certainly possible. Felix’s contract with Atletico runs until June 2029. It’s unlikely that extending his contract for another year would decrease his actual value.
According to Spanish outlet Sport, “Talks between Felix and Barcelona have begun on a one-year loan extension. It includes an outright transfer option. Everything will be handled by Jorge Mendes.”
Eventually, it was confirmed by Mendes’ agent that Barcelona wanted to sign Felix and Kancelu outright.
“Barcelona want to sign Felix and Kancelu permanently,” Mendes said. They want both players,” Mendes said.
