Ahn Se-young nominated for BWF Women’s Player of the Year…Seo Seung-jae nominated in two categories

South Korea’s “Queen of Badminton” Ahn Se-young (21-Samsung Life) has been nominated for the World Badminton Federation (BWF) Player of the Year award.

According to the BWF on Wednesday, the world No. 1 in women’s singles was nominated along with Chen Yufei (China) and Akane Yamaguchi (Japan) for the Female Player of the Year award.

The BWF Player of the Year award is given to the player with the most outstanding performance of the year, and performances from November last year to October this year are evaluated.

The BWF said of Ahn: “She had a season that other players can only dream of, reaching the finals in all but one of her 14 tournaments (this year) and winning 10 titles.”

The Australian Open, which she won in November last year, was included in the evaluation period and counted as one of her 11 titles.

This year, Ahn won the All-England Open, the World Individual Championships. Hangzhou Asian Games, and other major tournaments to reach the top of the world rankings.

Her rivals Yamaguchi and Chen Yufei have only won five and three titles this year, respectively, so Ahn is expected to win the award.

Seo Seung-jae (26-Samsung Life) was nominated for the Male Player of the Year award, while also being nominated in the doubles category alongside Chae Yoo-jung (28-Incheon International Airport).

“Seo made history as the first male player to win two World Individual Championships in 24 years,” the BWF said, “and he achieved success in both men’s doubles and mixed doubles.”

Seo won three titles in mixed doubles with Chae Yoo-jung and in men’s doubles with Kang Min-hyuk (24-Samsung Life).

Kim Jung-jun (Daegu Urban Development Corporation), the world No. 2 in the Para badminton WH2 category, was nominated for the Male Para Athlete Award.

The final winners will be announced on March 11. 먹튀검증
