Woo-Seok Koh gives up 3 runs in 1 inning in his first start since being demoted to Double-A
Woo-seok Ko, who was playing for the Triple-A Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp of the Miami Marlins, was promoted to Double-A Pensacola Blue Wahoos on Wednesday (June 12).
On the day he was sent down to Double-A, he pitched the final game of a doubleheader against the visiting Rocket City Tracy Pandas (Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim) at Toyota Stadium in Madison, Alabama, allowing three runs on three hits, including a home run, in one inning.
Taking the mound in the bottom of the ninth inning with his team leading 10-5, he gave up a leadoff single to Mac McCroskey, who reached second on an unassisted steal.
Gauskopf struck out Nelson Lada, but with runners on first and second, Gustavo Campero hit a double down the right field line.
Campero stole third and came home on Orlando Martinez’s grounder in front of the second baseman.
With the bases loaded, Ko gave up a solo shot to left-center field to Eric Wagerman for the third run.
After giving up a walk to Tucker Flint, Gauskopf got Ben Goebel to fly out to second base to end the game.
Pensacola went on to win 10-8.
Koo’s minor league ERA dropped from 4.32 to 4.98.
Ko, who began his professional career as the first overall pick of the LG Twins of the 2017 Korean Professional Baseball Organization, signed a two-year, $9.4 million contract with the San Diego Padres on Jan. 4.
The contract includes a “veto of demotion to the minor leagues in 2025,” but he won’t be able to exercise it this season.
In his first year in the United States, Go struggled in six Major League Baseball (MLB) exhibition games, going 2-2 with a 12.60 ERA (nine runs, seven earned, on 11 hits in five innings).
San Diego removed him from its MLB Opening Day roster (26-man) ahead of the team’s official opening game against the Los Angeles Dodgers on March 20 at Gocheok SkyDome in Seoul, South Korea.
After a brief stint with San Diego’s Triple-A El Paso Chihuahuas on paper, Koo actually opened the season with the Double-A San Antonio Missions.
On May 4, San Diego traded him to Miami.
He pitched at Triple-A in Miami, but was sent down to Double-A after being designated for assignment once.
His record this year is 2-2 with a 4.98 ERA in 27 games, one win, one loss, two saves, and two holds.
In San Antonio (Double-A), he was 2-2 with a 4.38 ERA in 10 games with one save and one hold, and in Jacksonville (Triple-A), he was 2-2 with a 4.29 ERA in 16 games with one hold.
At Pensacola (Double-A), he was tagged for three runs in one inning in his first start.
Ko continues to face a tough big league challenge in Double-A. 토토사이트
