‘Goldy’ Onuaku stumbles again, spits on opponent in TBT tournament…”You called me a ‘bitch'”
Chinanu Onuaku is at it again.
Onuaku had a major mishap after The Bill, a team comprised of University of Louisville alumni, played La Familia, a team comprised of University of Kentucky alumni, in The Basketball Tournament (TBT) 2024 on Tuesday.
It was La Familia who had the last laugh in the traditional rivalry matchup in front of a whopping 13,356 people. They defeated The Bill 70-64. The problem came after the game. Onuaku had a conversation with Nate Sestina 파워볼실시간 and then suddenly lunged at him and spat on him.
The problem started when Sestina turned the University of Louisville’s cheer L sign sideways and faced down during the game. The University of Louisville sports chant L sign is a source of pride for alumni, so Sestina’s L’s down gesture was no different than mocking the University of Louisville.
After the game, La Familia players continued to mock The Bill’s loss with the L’s down gesture. Eventually, Onuaku exploded and spat at Sestina.
“Onuaku told me not to do the L’s down gesture,” Sestina recalls, “so I was like, ‘Okay. It’s always going to be L’s down,” she said, adding, “He then came up to me and spit in my face.”
Onuaku took to social media to explain the incident. “I told him not to be disrespectful to my alma mater, but he said ‘X years,’ so why don’t we talk about that,” he lamented.
“It’s weird how you always hear one side of a story,” he said, adding, “I want to apologize for the way I acted after the last game. In that moment, my emotions, my pride for the University of Louisville, was bigger. I love the University of Louisville and I love the city. L’s up,” he added.
This isn’t the first time Onuaku has spat at someone; in June 2023, he got into an argument with a Maccabi Tel Aviv fan. The fan then spat at him, and Onuaku spat back.
In the 2023-24 season, he intentionally pushed Lens Abando, who played for Goyang Sono, causing him to suffer a serious injury. His apology was criticized for being late. He has since shown a lack of trust in domestic players in the Sono. In the 2024-25 season, he returned to the starting DB role.
Meanwhile, the TBT tournament Onuaku competed in is a big event that former national team coach Choo Il-seung has participated in before with foreign players from the KBL. College and professional players from all over the country are participating in the event. In particular, graduates of various universities often form teams and participate, attracting great attention.
The prize money is also huge. The first tournament in 2014 was worth $500,000, then $1 million in 2015, and $2 million from 2016 to 2019. However, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the prize pool was halved to $1 million in 2020, where it remains today.
