U.S. Gaming Industry Raises Responsible Gaming Investment To $471.8 Million

A recent study by the American Game Association (AGA) found a significant increase in investment in responsible gaming initiatives across the American gaming industry. Annual total spending surged to $471.8 million, a staggering 72% increase from the $275 million recorded in 2017. This increase in responsible gaming spending has outpaced sales growth in the gaming sector over the same period, indicating a deepening focus on creating safer gaming environments.

Investment history for responsible games:

AGA’s report, compiled by a major international accounting firm, includes $135.4 million for customer service interactions, $122.4 million for responsible game program development and maintenance, $127.7 million for consumer-facing responsible game training, $31.8 million for research and support for nonprofit responsible game organizations, and $26.1 million for problem gambling support services. 실시간 바카라사이트

Emphasizing the industry’s aggressive efforts, Joe Maloney, senior vice president of strategic communications for AGA, said in a press release, “This shocking increase in RG spending demonstrates the legal industry’s efforts to create a safe and informed gaming environment. In addition to significant taxes that contribute to responsible gaming funds and problematic gambling resources, the industry is proactively investing hundreds of millions of dollars to ensure that customers have the tools, knowledge, and safety to play responsibly.”

Responsible Game Education Month and New Tools:

The report coincides with 2024 Responsible Game Education Month (RGEM), where AGA has released a pioneering measure of responsible game intervention effectiveness. The tool is designed to help academics, industry members, and others evaluate the effectiveness of responsible game messaging. Maloney highlighted the success of RGEM, saying, “Our industry’s commitment to responsibility has made RGEM a huge success once again. We look forward to the work done over the past month being a springboard for the continued development of responsible gaming in the months and years to come.”

From July to September 2024, AGA surveyed a wide range of member companies, including casino operators, game equipment suppliers, iGaming or sportsbook operators. It then estimated data collected from this representative sample, generating industry-wide estimates based on reported sales for fiscal year 2023/year.

Responsible gaming remains a top priority in the U.S. as legal gambling jurisdictions continue to expand. Current regulatory approaches vary from state to state, but federal-level discussions are underway to build a national framework for responsible gaming. Recent legislative proposals, such as the SAFE Betting Act and the GRIT Act, aim to allocate federal funds to problem gambling and responsible gaming programs, a move towards more standardized regulation across the U.S.
