‘Season Out’ Kim Ha-sung will eventually undergo shoulder surgery…”I’m disappointed”

San Diego Padres’ Kim Ha-sung (29), who injured his shoulder while running base during the season, will have surgery eventually. As a result, he will not be able to play in the postseason this year. This is a red flag for Kim, who is about to sign a long-term contract as a free agent.

“Kim Ha-sung’s season is over. He will undergo shoulder surgery after the end of the season,” San Diego manager Mike Shildt said ahead of the game against the Arizona Diamondbacks on the 29th (Korea time).
A few minutes later, Kim Ha-sung stood in front of reporters and announced that he was scheduled to operate on his shoulder. The date of the surgery is unknown.

In an interview with the U.S. media on the day, Kim Ha-sung said, “I made every effort to return to the team and help, but my body didn’t go out of my control,” adding, “This season is over. I’m very disappointed and frustrated.”

Kim Ha-sung injured his right shoulder while sliding to the first base to avoid checking the opposing pitcher during a game on April 19. The San Diego Padres put Kim on the 10-day injured list (IL). He was not listed on the 60-day injured list, which is not a serious injury, but he has not been seen on the ground for more than a month.

Just four days ago, the San Diego Union-Tribune reported that Kim Ha-sung will work out at a spring camp facility in Arizona for the time being before joining the team on Wednesday. However, he ended up having shoulder surgery.

Coach Silt explained, “Kim Ha-sung will undergo surgery related to shoulder joint cartilage.”

At the end of this season, Kim will become a free agent. He signed a 4+1 year contract in 2021, but he has the right not to activate his option. Considering his performance over the past four years, he was expected to make a large contract worth up to 100 million U.S. dollars. ESPN predicted that Kim will be able to sign a contract worth between 100 million dollars and 200 million dollars, while The Athletic also predicted that Kim will sign a seven-year contract worth between 130 million dollars and 150 million dollars. On top of that, if he performs well in this post-season, he will have an even greater chance of making a big hit. However, the decision to undergo the surgery puts a dark cloud on Kim’s move.

“The shortstop Kim Ha-sung, who received the Gold Glove last year, will come to the free contract market with uncertainty,” MLB Trade Rumors said on the same day. “The teams may hesitate to propose a significant amount of multi-year contracts (for surgery reasons).” He added, “There will be concerns about how Kim Ha-sung’s shoulder problem will affect him in the future.”토토사이트 모음

Meanwhile, San Diego secured a wild card by winning against the Los Angeles Dodgers on the 25th. That day, Kim Ha-sung shared his joy with his teammates through a video call to celebrate his advance to the postseason.
