Japanese Lawmakers Propose Bill To Expand Casinos
Once again, the casino laws in Japan seem dead.
Union Gaming Group Management Partner Grant Goversen said Japanese legislators have decided not to hold a special meeting this fall, meaning 2015 games expansion will not be discussed.
Japanese lawmakers and the prime minister have considered legalizing at least two large resorts in Tokyo and Osaka. The tax revenue will be used to fund the infrastructure expansion needed for the 2020 Tokyo Summer Olympics.
The interest has attracted major Las Vegas gaming companies, including MGM Resorts International, Wynn Resorts, Inc. and Las Vegas Sands Inc. 릴게임
Macao-based Goversen said in a report to investors that 2016 was the fastest time for the first of the two gaming bills needed to expand casinos to be passed. He said that given the current schedule, the earliest time for a full-fledged resort to open in Japan will be 2022.
The government said Japan’s ruling refused to hold a special legislative session for the first time in a decade.
Analysts predict that Japan could become a market for gaming revenue of $5 billion to $6 billion a year. It’s comparable to two large resorts in Singapore.
Meanwhile, Chinese tourism to Japan is soaring, with annual visitors increasing by 117 percent to 3.3 million. The government said the trend is hurting the Macau casino industry.
“We continue to see people from mainland China flock to aspirational countries like Japan and South Korea, where visa requirements have been relaxed,” said Govtsen. “This represents lost customers in Macau’s mass market segment.”
