‘Exciting 55-centimeter height difference’…unrealistic scene draws attention of basketball fans
The tallest and shortest players faced off in a group stage men’s basketball game at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
Victor Wembanyama of France and Yuki Togashi of Japan were the main protagonists, with Wembanyama standing at 222 centimeters and Togashi at 167 centimeters. The difference in height between the two was a whopping 55 centimeters.
“Wembanyama is the tallest player in men’s basketball in this tournament and Togashi is the shortest,” the 파워볼게임 International Basketball Federation (FIBA) said before the game between France and Japan.
France and Japan faced off in the second game of Group B at the Olympic Games on Aug. 31 at Pierre Morua Stadium in Lille, France.
Sports Illustrated (SI) was also impressed by the two players’ “two-shot”.
“It’s an incredibly iconic shot that highlights the difference in height between Wembanyama and the Japanese player,” SI said, adding, “The shot of Togashi in a defensive position near Wembanyama’s hips is memorable.”
FIBA posted on social media, “It’s not a photoshop. There is only a 55-centimeter height difference between the two players,” FIBA wrote on social media.
Meanwhile, in the game, Japan nearly beat France, taking a four-point lead at 84-80 with 10.2 seconds left in the fourth quarter. However, French basketball player Mashu Strasel converted a four-point play to tie the game, and Wembanyama’s onslaught in overtime gave France the final 94-90 victory.
